There are very few people who have an idea of how homes are constructed. As long as the house you want is completed, then there is no need for you to know what is done, right? But it is essential you know what is done during construction because you will be able to estimate how long the building will take, the cost incurred, manpower and man-hours involved. Let us look just briefly on how construction is done and the basic processes followed.
There must be floor plans for the whole building before construction commences. After these plans have been developed and finalized, they must be submitted to the municipal officer. A building permit will only be issued after the municipal officer has approved the plans. The soil, capacity of the ground, and other environmental tests must be carried out by the homebuilders together with the site inspection.
Foundation means that before the building is done, the base must be firmly laid. Removal of the topmost soil is done. The next thing done is excavation of the site. What follows is the formation and pouring of the footings which are concrete slabs that will support the foundation. Erection of the wall foundations follows. At this stage, the homebuilders might need your input on the design of floors.
This is a process of erecting a framing skeleton. Here, different framing techniques can be applied, but the most common is applying an exterior sheeting. The windows and doors are installed in this third stage. It is important to note that the frames can also be constructed on the ground and once done, they are lifted in place.
In this stage, if the house being constructed will have a basement, then the basement floor is constructed and installed. Piping and the ventilations are done at this stage and this will stage will also include the electric wiring, heating and cooling. The house inspection by the safety and standard officer is also done at this point. Any mistake noticed by the safety inspector is rectified before the job continues and this ensures that the house is safe and up to the required standard.
Interior and Exterior Work
This is the fourth stage of construction. A lot of work is done at the same time and this means that the timing has to be correct to ensure the outcome is good and on schedule. On the exterior, the insulation is done, heating and cooling systems properly installed. The blockage of the water vapor is set up at this point of the construction. Painting of the walls and the upper part of the house is done at this point. The wardrobes with the draws and those that are just for hanging are set up and the floor is plastered permanently at this stage.
The few points outlined above are just but a few of the many things that happen during the construction of any house The constructor taking care of building your home must also keep in touch with you to give you regular updates of the whole process.
