New readers: We’re just kicking off a new chapter. There’s plenty of time to start at the very beginning and catch up!
So yesterday I worked on a new Eleanor page all day. The best part? I figured out how to livestream the session, so for a few hours I worked on the comic while readers hung out and kept me company. Lots of fun. Here’s the progress I made on page 40. I’ll definitely do this again, and if you’re interested in seeing what goes into making a single page of the comic, you should come hang out, too.
On to today’s new page!
Like I mentioned before, we’re going time-traveling with this new chapter. 1984. Fourteen years from now, Eleanor will row to Huffnagle Island with her friends, kick off her shoes, and, to impress a boy, she’ll dive into the Pacific. Her parents will be distraught and in shock, and Eleanor’s entire world will change. But the reason for that change started years earlier, before she was even born.
So here we are. 1984.
Meet Eleanor’s parents. That’s Paul there, unshaven and snoring. And that’s Agnes, his young bride, snuggled up to him on a pile of laundry. Eleanor’s in this picture, too, though you wouldn’t recognize her just yet.
Chapter 1 answers a few questions, and will probably create a few more. One of these adults has a secret, and it just might wrench this little family apart.
In the meantime, after you’ve caught up on Eleanor, I highly recommend you check out Smash! Chris and Kyle Bolton are on fire, and their little ten-year-old superhero story is a potent dose of wish-fulfilmment. I mean, who didn’t want to be Superman when you were ten years old? Kyle’s artwork reminds me in no small way of Calvin & Hobbes, and Chris’s intense story is like one of Calvin’s daydreams, but about forty million times as exciting. Exciting enough that I couldn’t resist doing a little fan art a couple weeks ago.
There are lots of ways to stay on top of Eleanor’s story, and to see lots of behind-the-scenes sneak peeks of upcoming pages: You can become an Eleanor fan on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter, or check out my Tumblr sketchblog.
Happy Monday!

Supe’s a lazy bastard. All the time he’s working as a Journalist he could be flitting between other cities and saving people in them. He should be ridden with guilt. D:
So I suppose you’d be better off with a superpower that says “Hey, that’s cool” but doesn’t leave you burdened with moral dilemmas about how much time to use for yourself.
I confess I’ve always wondered the same thing. Why isn’t he in costume every second of every day? How does he choose who gets saved?
